One thing that stood out about Yu Qing is her bubbly personality and positive outlook on life despite her medical condition. Yu Qing was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukaemia in 2020 after recurrent fever and the appearance of lumps under her tongue. Treatment commenced immediately resulting in Yu Qing staying in the hospital for 4 straight months for several cycles of chemotherapy. While her parents took the news with an extremely heavy heart; it was Yu Qing who urged them not to cry for her. Not only was she the pillar of strength for her parents, she even encouraged the junior doctors and nurses not to be afraid when drawing blood from her! During her visits at the hospital, Yu Qing befriended doctors, nurses and other children in the ward– becoming a source of inspiration to some of the other children there.
Yu Qing aspires to be a famous Youtuber or a person of influence when she grows up. She loves to sing and dance (especially ballet) since small. She also taught herself to play the electric organ and is already an expert in video editing – this multi-talented young lady is definitely on her way to becoming a popular Youtuber!
Yu Qing’s introduction to ballet was sparked when she stumbled upon Swan Lake on the internet. And through the generosity of Jean Gan and her ballet academy, this natural dancer learned the beginner’s ballet steps which she later performed during her concert–all with just a few lessons. To make the online concert even more memorable, the Royal Patron of Make-A-Wish Malaysia, Tengku Zatashah and board members also joined the first ever Zoom concert wish granted to applaud our star performer.
“Yu Qing is truly happy to have her wish granted. I could see Yu Qing jumping with joy when she put on the ballet dress and shoes from Ms Gan. We take comfort in seeing her so happy. ” said Yu Qing’s mother.
