For many, bicycles are just a toy or a humble mode of transportation, but for five year old Marissa, it is a symbol of her freedom, possible adventures and joy.
Marissa was just two years old when she was diagnosed with spastic diplegia cerebral palsy, a chronic neuromuscular condition that has significantly limited her ability to move. From the moment she was wheeled through the hospital doors, she has since endured 36 dreadful months of treatment.
For Marissa, her condition meant missing out on simple joys of childhood—running, playing, and exploring without limitations. Despite battling a condition unimaginable to most, her longing for fun and freedom persisted.
When Marissa was sharing about her dream pink bicycle, her eyes lit up with excitement. She pictured herself regaining the happiness of playing with her friends, being outdoors and feeling the wind on her face again!
Marissa’s journey is far from over but with every ride, she continues to inspire everyone around her. Her story reminds us all of the impact we can make when we come together to bring hope to children facing incredible challenges.
