Illness : acute lymphoblastic leukaemia
Wish : To have a child size fire truck
Akif was born with down syndrome and that was only the beginning of this nine year old’s journey.
Akif had difficulty walking, up till a point that he could no longer stand up. Weeks of tests that started to drain Akif, doctors confirmed that he was diagnosed with leukaemia in June 2022.
To date, Akif has undergone a bone marrow transplant and three cycles of intensive chemotherapy treatments – each cycle draining him more than the previous.
Knowing Akif has had to endure what most boys his age don’t, Akif’s family agreed that having a wish experience would help bring Akif motivation to battle his illness. “I wish to have a fire truck!” yelped Akif in excitement.
As soon as he arrived at Balai Bomba Senawang, he was given his own little firefighter uniform and was sworn in to be part of the brigade.
With one powerful ring of the alarm, Akif was on his way to put out his first fire and had a wish day full of activities as a firefighter in training. Before wrapping up, Captain Akif walked to the back of the station to find a room full of his gifts that included his own little fire truck.
“The wish made him so happy! He got to do all of the things he loves” said Ain.
